Looking for the ultimate Boost Mobile phone? Nextel has announced that the Blackberry 8350i will be offered by the end of 2008.
Boost Mobile users have already been enjoying the advanced business oriented offerings from Nextel for some time. It’s well known that Nextel phones work with Boost’s sim cards.
This new "curve" will have push-to-talk, GPS, WiFi, a 2.0 megapixel camera with flash, and os 4.6 - all of which will make it highly desirable to Boosters.

It’s about time for a real prepaid blackberry
September 7th, 2008 at 5:00 am
Is this really prepaid? u sure..?
September 7th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Since the phone will be offered through Nextel, you can purchase the blackberry from them and than use it with Boost Mobile, making it prepaid. The only downside to this is the phone will be pretty expensive as you won’t get any short term price breaks by signing a contract, but in the long term if prepaid suits you better, you will still save money.

have anybody tried this phone on boost?
Cause Nextel people said,it won’t work on Boost.
December 26th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
I not sure it would work. Boost offers a 64k sim card. The question is does the Nextel BB curve require a 128k sim?

MY GURL N I ARE THINKN BOUT GETTN THE NEW BLACKBERRY BUT WHAT I’M HEARING I DON’T KNOW IF WE SHOULD.WE HAVE BOOST TOO AS OUR CARRIER.EVERYBODY HAS DIFFERENT FEED BACK ABOUT THE PHONE.THE TWO OF US ARE TEXTERS SO I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE SHOULD DO. March 17th, 2009 at 9:36 am
IT WILL NOT WORK. blackberry phones need “Service Books” and Boost does not have a contract with RIM to have access to their servers, so the blackberry will not receive the service books needed to send or receive text messages, basically the same reason why a nextel blackberry on a nextel price plan wont text unless there is a blackberry data plan. RIM (maker’s of the blackberry) charges the carriers to use their servers, hence the $$$ it costs for a data plan for a blackberry. so, unless Boost gets a contract with RIM, it will NOT work.

CAN ANY ONE TELL HOW I CAN USE MY BOOST SIM CARD IN 8350I…I JUST BOUGHT IT AND IT DOES NOT WORK
March 23rd, 2009 at 9:17 pm
I’m interested to use the 8350i on boost for voice and texting only. I heard that the 8350 takes special SIM and even traditional Nextel SIMs wont work in it let alone Boost SIMS. I know that you can use a nextel SIM in old style blackberries like 7100 and 7520–and use keyboard for texting only. Does anyone know anymore?
March 24th, 2009 at 10:01 am

I have the 8350i from nextel i put in the boost sim and it works the direct connect works and in and out bound calls also as for internet i downloaded opera mini which costs $50 but if you can help me out with the problem below ill provide you with a link to get it for free and it works great just as good as the blackberry’s internet when using wifi. the only problem is when i save my contacts down for those that use boost you know that you have to dial the area code first then the phone number to make a call well i saved my contacts this way with the area code first then the number i have also tried putting a 1 in front of the area code for the contact but when i try to make a call it says “the number or code you have dialed is incorrect” yet when i receive in coming calls it says the contact name can anyone help me solve this problem it really sucks i have to look at each number and memorize it to make a call also does any one know how to get the text messaging working as well? like i said ill provide you with a free working link to get opera mini if you provide me with a solution.
March 25th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
as for those who can get there phone to work at all try buying a new sim card from boost its called the “starter kit” it comes with a sim card and $10 credit it costs $20 you can get them at any sprint store then call boost customer care and activate the card but when they ask you for the IMEI number give them the one from an actual boost phone or other nextel phone that will work on the boost network because the customer rep will not activate the card if you give them the IMEI number from blackberry 8350i because they state it wont work right because the dont have the data package which is half true but who cares… right you just want the thing to work on using boost im almost sure this will solve your problems as for my problem its the post above this one so if i helped you out please read mine and help me out thanks
March 25th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
I had the blackberry 8350 I end up giving it back to the seller cause does not work well with boost you can only call iy you dial manually cause whe you call from your contact it does not callout
you can not text message unless you buy such prgrams and you have to be in wifi
much phone for little service I keep my i880 moded I can actually go msn messanger all day and not get charge a penny extra and use all my services like a regular boost phone
if you have solutions for the common problems post them here
regards
March 25th, 2009 at 9:41 pm

March 25th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
I just got this phone and put in the sim card from my boost i776. I didn’t update it on the website or anything… but I already had service. As per the comments above… Boost didn’t want to update my acct so I just skipped that part.
It works for calling… and whether because of Boost of beause of my home wireless internet I’m able to able to access the web and my email.
Going to add in my contacts and see if i have any issues w/ the numbers and also if the gps works or not.
March 26th, 2009 at 12:34 am

March 26th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
I have a Blackberry 8350 and i just added it on the boost mobile site. It also looks like it will allow me to add my BB sim also because it starts with the 0008. As far as the phone book, you have to take off smart dialing, it did the same thing to me, and i wanted to destroy my phone. Also as a work around for texting you can use AOL IM to Text, it works and its free. besides that its a great device.

Also Opera Mini is free from opera
March 28th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
Has anyone tried to register the phone? Go into Options> Advance Options> Host Routing Table> Hit menu and register. It kicks an email or MMS to the Blackberry server then sends you a message back. That is how I had to get MMS, SMS to work on the NEXTEL side. It might work for Boost.
March 30th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
well for anyone having trouble when dialing a person on your phonebook, actually its really simply just the # at the end of the number and save it. i dont know how taht work but it works.

April 1st, 2009 at 7:31 pm
so can some body tell me whats the code to unlock the blackberry
April 6th, 2009 at 9:02 am
I have the curve on boost and it works just fine. Download Opera Mini to get internet. I also have mobile gmail and it updates it. Change the area to UNKNOWN to get the contacts to work correctly. Look on the forums for directions on how to get your text messages. You register for Nextel as a user but not owner — Nextel users have a longer password - which is the distinguishing factor — and then go online and sign up to have your text messages forwarded to your gmail and then note on gmail you want an alert. It checks every half hour. I find that the internet is surprisingly fast! I can also use google maps and can get directions from where-ever I am — as it does locate me. It takes a few days to get your phone working… but it’s a nice phone and I think worth the effort.
April 11th, 2009 at 6:22 am
PS- you do not need to unlock the curve.
I used my old Boost phone’s code number and the same SIM card # as what was in my brown/silver Boost phone to register the phone with Boost.
April 11th, 2009 at 6:25 am
Hi Jules,
Where do I go on my Black berry to Change the area to UNKNOWN to get the contacts to work correctly?
April 12th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
hi Oliver
1)go to your phone application,2)press the menu key. click “options”. 3) click “smart dialing”. 4) set the country code to “unknown”. 5) press the menu key and save.
April 15th, 2009 at 3:38 am

April 16th, 2009 at 3:58 am
I have listened to everyone and now I am totally confused. I hate my boost i776 phone. I had a sprint palm and switched to boost. The palm won’t work because it doesn’t have a sims card. I want a blackberry because I want to get on the internet and text. Those are the two things I want but I need to make sure I buy the best phone out there that works with boost mobile. I want my letters to type like a computer. I hate that the 2 button is abc. This is not working for me. WHAT PHONE SHOULD I BUY? PLEASE HELP ME.
Brooke

I just put my BB on the Boost Network.. I’m lovin’ it.. One question.. This may sound silly, but… Do I need to be on Wifi in order to get on the web?
April 20th, 2009 at 8:35 am
Hi Nova,
Download Opera Mini for the web.
April 20th, 2009 at 7:01 pm
ppl ppl ppl heres a hint goto a website called crackberry have u guys forgotten how to search the information highway? heres the deal i have a 7100i ive spent 2 or 3 days (they all molded into 1) searching for stuff for my 7100. i found a site called crackberry.com . now i have boost sim ive read thru some of your pitiful questions and answers and here goes. #1 it doesnt matter how big the sim card is ppl these bb’s have their own memory !. #2
u wont ever send a txt message without a service book but as they tell u at crackberry u can send it via email u type in recieving # say like 2123456789@teleflip.com no 1 b4 # and supposedly it will send a text but u have to send it as email from bb. BUT U NEED THE SERVICE BOOKS !
now to surf the world wide web from phone its so simple getr a data cable hook it up make sure it comm’s between phone and comp and download a nice little prog called opera badda bing done upload it DONE! next U NEED A SERVICE BOOK TO DOWNLOAD ANYTHING! supposedly u can contact nextel and request but u probly wont get unless u signup for the bb service i went to site signed up on web registered blah blah it has the option u can request the service books but guess what 3 days later still nada so all in all the answer is u can use boost in bb’s just limited usage. but with a data cable u can do almost anything even download free games etc and install. oh and i seen some1 said they need their phone unlocked heres a clue ITS ALREADY UNLOCKED u can go thru motion crackberry describes but u still have to contact nextel for code .
April 21st, 2009 at 6:41 pm
I tried to DL Opera. I have the files on my Desktop on my MAC. I attempted to move the file to my BB, but the browser has not changed. What am I doing wrong?
April 22nd, 2009 at 9:21 am
wow….
I really like this 8350i but im debating on getting it or not.
Text dont work?
That sucks.
But then again you can beat Boost’s price 50 Unlimited everything! web, calls, text, chirp =]
I just bought the i880 and i like the phone pretty hot.
April 23rd, 2009 at 2:22 am
I got it to work..
April 23rd, 2009 at 2:51 pm
sprint/nextel don’t care if it works just want your $,i purchased a instinct paper weight. thanks
April 26th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
SO HOW DO I GET THIS TO WORK THEN… I WANT TO TXT OR ATLEAST GO ON THE WEB WITHOUT USING WIFI
May 7th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
can some one tell me how can unlock my RIM blackberry 8350 nextel, i want to conect with BOOST MOBIL, send me an email at; PMARLON91@GMAIL.COM thank you
May 10th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
i have the bb but it dosent work for boost. you can chirp you can call in and out but you cant text. blackberry is there own provider and you need an account with nextel to text. even if you had a nextel account the phone just emails and have pin. you still have to call nextel for them to put text messaging on the phone. this phone is cool but really we all really bought it for texting and without that its useless. like someone said u can use aol text but everyone dosent have that. its better if you can text off your number but it aint working. never will. so people give up and sell it or take it back. or just get a nextel contract. by the way i know this for a fact cuz im a authorize dealer for nextel, boost, t-mobile, etc. WIRELESS HOOK-UP is the name of my shop. in LOS ANGELES CA. thanks hope you take this and ask no more questions cuz really its a wrap.
May 12th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Marlon is an idiot!! I too am a Boost, t-mobile, and nextel dealer and I have a 7100i with current SB and I can text!! The key is getting the service books.. But your not supposed to know that..lol! People you can text, you can download OTA, you can access the internet and all of the functions you pay for. Just need the SB s . You can get SB from an existing nextel customer…
May 19th, 2009 at 3:44 am
Once U have Downloaded the OTA do U save it to your blackberry? And how exactly do you get your hands on the service books?
May 19th, 2009 at 4:03 am
Ok, so how do you get the service books? And what is the OTA? I’m new to this site. Nobody know now? Stuff was sounding good for a minute. C’mon now, all this info being put out here on this site but no answer on the big question? HOW DO YOU GET THE SERVICE BOOKS? Inquiring minds want to know.
May 21st, 2009 at 2:06 am
yup i have the new BB 8350…phone makes phone calls and walkie talkie works but cant text or send pics….really sucks…now imagine if it would have everything…ill be a very happy camper…GO CHARGERS!
May 25th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Email me an at michaelglassman1@gmail.com and I will send you service books.
May 28th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
okay i have boost and i have the 8350i and the only way you can use the boost service and the phone is to unlock the phone, plain and simple no if ands or buts, there is no other way, nextel reps will tell you anything in order to make a sale, dont listen to them, if you get the phone just unlock it and then you’ll be able to use boost service on it, thats what i did, and let me tell you it works great
June 5th, 2009 at 12:37 am
So what you’re saying is if the phone is unlocked, you can use the BB like it’s INTENDED to be used? Not just making calls, I mean internet, text, pix & all that shit? Is that the truth or do you really need SERVICE BOOKS? This is becoming ridiculous because I’m hearing two different things. I just want the damn phone to work like a BB supposed to! So which is it, UNLOCK or SERVICE BOOKS? Please respond!!!!!
June 5th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
I have a BB 8350i and it works for Phone and chirp on boost without doing anything “special” to the phone or service.
FACT!
I read thru multiple posts here that say otherwise. I say those folks are B.S.ing and donnt know what they are talking about!
June 6th, 2009 at 11:16 am
I have the 8350i and am utilizing all areas of this blackberry on the boost network. In order to download the Opera software for your blackberry, you will have to connect to the WIFI (802.11g) on your phone and download it simply by exploring or searching for the software via google. Also, I setup gmail on my blackberry and am able to send/ recieve emails from all sms gateways using their email to sms addresses. All phone calls and walkie talkie will work without any modifications on the blackberry.
June 7th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
so i can get to the internet using opera mini but when i go to youtube it wonmt let me play the videos it says its a wifi service only so can i install a different player that will let me watch videos from the data plan?
June 10th, 2009 at 1:31 am
i found a type of card that you use with your sim card and it unlocks all those features. you can find it on ebay, just search for unlock sim card and it’ll pop up. they are fairly inexpensive (like a few dollars) and are well worth it.
June 11th, 2009 at 7:19 pm

Hi all, I have boost on my Nextel I580. I have the Nextel simply unlimitied on my 8350 BB. Please someone tell me what I need to do before switching over to boost with the blackberry. I hear about these service books, but I have no idea what everyone is refering to as it appears that other posters arein the same boat. Because I have nextel now, does that mean I already have them. Do I have to save them so that they are not turned off when I leave nextel? Can someone better explain or tell me what to do? Thanks
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:43 am
Arvi your a crook! The service books as you called them bricked my new 8350i!!!!! You suck! Buyer Beware!

Anyone verify that it is ligit? I cant stand the thought of having to deal with EBAY? to get textin? Which one works? HELP!! Money is tight!
June 26th, 2009 at 4:01 am
Thanks Mike! Got it working. Appreciate all your help!!
Anyone know where I can get an HTC Mogul? My neighbor has one working on Boost now..Anyone else hear that?
June 27th, 2009 at 9:17 am
So, simple question here I think… I currently have T-Mobile Service, I have the BB Curve - would like to switch to Boost - Must have the ability to 1. Place/Receive calls 2. Send/Receive all types of texts 3.Connect/Browse web - Can I do all this with my BB Curve? Don’t really care about the walkie talkie feature, but the other 3 are must haves.
I see the posts about Mike and Ebay, just really want to make sure my phone will work before I drop T-Mobile.
Thanks so much!
June 29th, 2009 at 2:35 am
Ok - One more question - I also have a Samsung Gravity which is also currently with T-Mobile - can I get this to work with Boost? For this phone I simply need to be able to call and text… that’s all.
Thanks so much!
June 29th, 2009 at 2:49 am

Aloha Mike,
I just by chance came across this site as I over heard one of the TSA agents going on about having her formerly T-Mobile Curve working on Boost.
My Wife, Son and I had AT&T for 12 years and we each had BB8310 until they started jacking the plans around here in my home town. Since both my wife and I carry a BB8350i from work I decided to cancel the AT&T account. The phones have been dead for 2 months now and I am looking to unlock them BB8310AT&T and use them on Boost as we got our son a generic Boost phone and it’s $50 per month and this is very valuable to us.
I’d appreciate it if you could tell me my BB8310 will work on boost as they are just sitting on my dresser collecting dust and all my contacts are on it…
Mahalo,
Noa

OMG if you made it this far I am going to clear up some ?’s that need clearing up.
1) ATT and Tmobile are interchangeable, its a SIM swap but ATT to Nextel(iDen) is not. Here’s why, ATT is GSM type data and Nextel is old TDMA, so different frequency in MHz, as well as data types. Next Sprint, Alltel now purchased by Verizon, and Verizon themselves are the same freq but these companies track their phones thru its IMEI, a hardwired version of a SIM, Sprint, Alltel, and Verizon use the same type of data but different freq.’s for their phones.
2) There are no unlock codes for Nextel phone, and yes, you will need to update service books, service books are like a list of programs installed on your BB much like a computer, without these its like trying to open a Word document withou having Word! A few people have them but buyer beware, you will need to have some skill to do these things.
3) If you don’t understand what I’m talking about then I would recommend finding a local retailer or reseller that is experienced in doing these conversions. They should have a phone to demo their abilities. Its not too much to ask for a demonstration, if they want to sell you. This way if there are problems youre not stuck with a $200 paperweight.
4) most of the non BB type phones should not require any mods as they do not have BIS/BES dependent programs,
5)and as stated by a previous message, size of your sim is only for the storage of contacts, it has 0 to do with functionality of the SIM just more room for your Contacts. The people stating it fried phones really have no concept of modern electronics, its a chip not a battery, its memory not power! I mean really!
And word of advise to posters-
IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT, AND IT’S ALL JUST CONJECTURE, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. YOU ARE MAKING YOURSELF LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT TO THE PEOPLE WHO DO KNOW, AND SPREADING MIS-DIS INFORMATION TO THE PEOPLE WHO DON’T ACTUALLY KNOW. -Best of Luck, Tony

Hey guys,
I have a question, I know I am late in this blog, but I currently have Boost service and I am thinking about purchasing an 8350i as my phone. I wanted to know if it is possible to make Blackberry messenger work? Just curious. Also, is the internet at least a decent speed, I don’t expect 3g speed, but is it tolerable?

August 23rd, 2009 at 3:09 pm
I just ordered my BB and I have Boost. I know that the voice and DC will work. I was researching it and there are a few websites that actually walk you through on how to convert it to Boost and have the Browser and text work. Just look up Boostberry or 8350i Boost service books.
August 25th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Some of the older sim cards can cause some issues but if you have a newer sim it isn’t likely, THe main thing causing you not to be able to browse thge internet or send sms txt messages is the service books.
I have THe solution to your problems. You can to have a fully working Nextel Blackberry 7100i, 7520i or 8350i on Boost Mobile. My kit includes a step by step guide & working servicebooks allowing you to get full use of your BoostBerry without using any workarounds.
With my kit you’ll be able to send & recieve SMS & MMS text messages as well as browse the web & use your phone as a GPS device. You can also use GPS programs such as nav4all & google maps.
For more information check out my ebay ad!

alright everyone foirst and foremost if you have the blackberry curve nextel 8350i you can absolutely text with it isf you install a file that someone on ebay is selling for like 8 buck. search convert blackerry 8350i. This works 100% and the person helps you install if you get stuck. i guess it works for the 7100i too.

September 27th, 2009 at 10:32 am
To my understanding the text or the website service will not work until they make it compatible. My friend just started recieving calls on his phone so they are moving pretty slow, he had the phone since february. I guess their waiting on a contract to be signed.
September 29th, 2009 at 4:55 pm

OK, your all going to love me. I have found a way to make the 8350I work completely.. TXT, MMS, Native Browser, EVERYTHING !!!!!
To start you need to download this link for the service books.
forums.crackberry.com/attachments/f137/25614d1243257066-boostberry-8350i-workarounds-combined3.zip
1) ENABLE SERVICE BOOK COMPLETE BACKUP / OVER WRITE / RESTORE on the Device, like this:
a) On your device, go to Options -> Advanced Options -> Service Books hold Alt and hit {S}{B}{E}{B} let go of alt and it should show a message about how legacy service books are enabled.
2) BACKUP EXISTING SERVICE BOOKS
a) Hook up the phone to the laptop
b) Open Blackberry Desktop Manager -> Backup/Restore -> Advanced
i) On the right side, scroll down to Service Books, then press the
ii) Click on Save, and save them some place just in case
3) WRITE NEW SERVICE BOOKS TO DEVICE
a) First, clear your service books by scrolling down on the right side, high light Service Books, then press Clear
b) Check your device now (Options -> Advance Options -> Service Books)
i) If there is anything left besides something that mentions TCP/IP or Browser, delete those also
c) Open BB DM, go to Backup/Restore -> Advanced -> Left Window -> File -> Open -> select the service book file you downloaded.
d) Disconnect phone from Computer.
e) Go to Options -> Advanced Options -> Host Routing Table -> BB Menu key -> Register
f) go to advanced settings -> browser and change the hot spot to browser.
i) Now your browser should be enabled, along with this, you should also be able to send/receive MMS. Now would be an okay time to test this.
g) If you do not get the browser option restart and try again.
If you want to add any other apps at that point, go ahead and do it. I want some KUDOS FOR THIS ONE.. I HAVE AN OFFICIAL BOOSTBERRY !!!!

Rather than buy a cd, pay someone, or pull your hair out…go crackberry forums and it has some information there.
