Nokia 5300 XpressMusic Issues

This has been my personal phone for the last 4-5 months, and while phone usually don’t even last me this long, I have found that the Nokia 5300 doesn’t stand up to time like other phones in their line. Before you buy, you should really consider purchasing a flip phone if you will primarily carry it in your pocket, as sliders will get scratched easily sharing a pocket with your change and keys. You may also look into samsung and Helio’s offerings.

Most Nokia phones that I have owned over the years have stood up to substantial amounts of abuse and I usually consider Nokias indestructible, but the 5300 was not the slider I expected it to be. Being made by Nokia, I assumed their slider mechanism would last and last. That’s not the case. When new, the slider has a metal on metal sound like it’s dragging and not running smooth. After a couple weeks of use, the slider loosened up. After 5 months, the slider has REALLY loosened up.

Now, it’s not as loose as I may make it sound. But somewhere in the loose-ness of the slider, the screens cable has been damaged. Last week the phone’s screen ceased to turn on when opened, so I was stuck texting under a lamp to see the screen. I’ve had issues with this phone freezing, and many other things. I have owned MANY cellular phones, and this is one of very few that have given me issues before I had a chance to drop it in a pool or loose it.

I judge phones by how well they work until I loose them or damage them myself. Going by my rating system, this phone gets a 3 out of 5 as it was a good phone and it did last awhile for me… It may just be that my phones slider was defective, as the 5300 has gotten GREAT reviews. If your looking for music, the 5300 may be what you want, but if your more into taking pictures than using your phone as an ipod, I think the MotoRizr is what you want.
