How to get free ringtones (and more!)

Paying a dollar to 3 dollars for ringtones, for songs that you already own, isn’t all that smart… is it? If your like most people, you have probably purchased between 2-20 ringtones, wallpapers, screen savers, and graphics for your phone.

The tips discussed here are mainly for getting ringtones, but they will work for any type of file that you would like to transfer onto your cell. The methods work for getting free ringtones with T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Boost Mobile, Tracfone, ATT, Helio, and any other cellular phone provider

So how do you get ringtones and other goodies for free?

Let’s start with where NOT to get ringtones. We have all seen those commercials that tell you to text XXXX to XXXXX to get XXXXX ringtone for free, and that promise you 2 additional free ringtones. But, what they don’t tell you is that you are going to be billed usually $9.99 a month for 10 additional ringtones that you COULD download every month… That’s not very fair, is it?

100% free ringtones?

There are 3 very easy ways to get free ringtones, ignoring the fact that many prepaid cell phone companies send out coupons or promotional codes that entitle you to free ringtones with no string attached. But how can you get 100% free ringtones when ever you want them?

First, you could use your phones data cable or purchase a USB data cable for your phone if it has a firewire or USB connection on it. With the data cable hooked up, you can freely transfer full songs to your phone from your computer… Though most phones do not include or have usb data cables available for them at this time…

If you don’t have a data cable or your phone doesn’t support transfer from your personal computer, you can always upload the ringtone you want to a site such as box.net. After uploading the files to box.net, open your phone web browser and type in the address (in your phones browser) to the ringtone you have uploaded. You should get a message allowing you to download the ringtone, or it may start the download immediately. This works in the same way as your phone downloads ringtones from your cell phone providers offering of ringtones, only your not paying (except for your phones web charges) and your not using their servers.

Don’t have web browsing or a USB cable? You can always send the songs to a friends phone using their web browsing or USB cable, and than have them “mulimedia” message (aka picture message) the song or ringtone file to your phone!

If your phone doesn’t support full song ringtones or hifi ringers, you can always use a ringtone maker to select a part of the song you would like to use as your repeating ringtone…
