LG 410 now available from Tracfone

The new LG 410 is available now at Radioshack for Tracfone. This new flip phone with external display carries only a $20 price tag, which is pretty good.

With a clamshell design and carbon fibre accents, the LG 410 easily outlooks any other $20 phone offering. There is a full color exterior and interior display, and the antenna is internal minimizing the bulk. While the feature list is not exciting, this small attractive cell phone was designed to be cheap, reliable, and even disposable. This is a great choice for emergency phones, backups, or a throw away at only $20.

Boost Mobile - Save a few bucks reboosting

If you frequently buy $50 reboost cards for your Boost Mobile phone, your most likely paying $53-55 after tax.

There are a few ways for you to save money the next time you add money to your cell phone, that doesn’t even involve a promo code. You can purchase cards on ebay for $45-48 with no tax, saving up to $7 per top up! There are also websites such as virtualcitycards.com that sell cheap universal cards and will add the minutes to your phone within an hour for you.

I have personall bought the reboost cards from ebay from a guy in Round Rock, Texas and received the card within 2 business days. It’s not a bad way to get your card and save a few bucks on your monthly usage.

You should also be aware if you do not buy prepaid cards Boost Mobile is required to collect your local sales tax when you add money over the phone. You can avoid this by using an Oregon address as yours on your account. No more sales tax, and a few more bucks saved when you really have to reboost with a credit card.

T-Mobile G1 for $160 SHIPPED

I called T-Mobile today and decided to see how cheap I could get a HTC G1. I was quickly offered the G1 for $160by a customer loyalty agent, including tax and next dayshipping. The phone, with 2 year renewal, is listed for $179+tax+shipping ($200).

The new Google phone, originally billed as an iPhone killer, really isn’t all that cool compared to the iPhone.. For example, the specs given by HTC for the G1 have it as a non multi-touch device, meaning you can only use one finger or point of contact on the screen. That eliminates a lot of cool tricks that the iPhone is capable of. Due to the current multi-touch screen being used, it is possible to hack them into multi-touch devices, but no applications will support multi-touch.

On the other hand, the iPhone in it’s second generation is slick looking and has over 16k applications available. It’s easy to see that switching to AT&T is easily worth it.

My contract is not up for another week, at which time I could probably get another $20 credit when I call in to cancel. Unfortunately, $140 for a G1 just isn’t worth it. I’ve owned HTC before, and don’t plan on making that mistake again.

Get out of a cell phone contract, morally

Want out of a cell phone contract but don’t want to pay an Early Termination Fee (ETF)?

Most all cellular providers allow you to get out of your contract by transfering your contract to another person who meets their credit check. It’s pretty easy to find someone who would like a contract with only a year or 6 months left, especially when you throw in your old phone.

I’m not aware of any providers who will not allow you to do this, and there are even a couple services who facilitate this, such as CellTradeUSA.com. It can take awhile to find someone using these services, so I would recommend your local craigslist. If you don’t have a popular phone to offer with the contract, you can always offer a cash incentive like people do when swapping leases.

This is a lot easier than roaming your phone over a few weekends, or tethering your phone. Both of which can work, but if you want to escape morally, just give someone your contract.

Customer Loyalty Credits with Prepaid Phones

Looking for some quick credits to order a new phone with your prepaid company? I’ve had a phone with Virgin Mobile for over 2 years now and broke the phone. I rarely use the account, so I didn’t want to spend much money.

Since T-Mobile has always given me credits when I loose/want a new phone (even without a contract push), I decided to call in and mess with some VM reps. A rep offered me $10, the maximum amount they can offer. Talking with a retention agent, I was able to score a total of $20 towards a new phone.

This could work with other prepaid providers, or maybe I just got lucky. It’s worth trying out if you have had your account for awhile.
