Switch_Back vs Slider Sonic

The current top of the line phones at virgin mobile are still the Slider Sonic and the Switch_Back… but which one is right for you?

The Switch_Back is sold as a side hinged clamshell with a full QWERTY keyboard for texting and sharing pictures with it’s camera and flash.. It’s one of the few phones offered by other cell phone providers, so accessories are easy to find and getting a replacement charger isn’t a never ending quest. But the camera is horrible, and the keypad is very small and makes a bad texting platform unless you have very small hands..

As one person said:

“It’s pretty darned small, to be honest. I have to crook my thumbs and practically type on my nails. It’s not too bad for me, but I’m a female. If you’re a man, you’d probably have more trouble properly pressing the buttons.”

The slider sonic looks really cool, online. It almost looks like a helio hero from very far away (it’s good from far, but far from good!)… Like the Helio Hero, the phone is unbelievably heavy. It’s sold as an mp3 player that many users think will replace the IPOD. Truth be told, it can only fit 2-3 songs, and even then playback isn’t all that great. The keys are easy to use, and unlike other sliders, the phone is not prone to slider malfunction and damage. If you really want to use the MP3 player, you can replace the included micro sd with your own and get a lot more storage capacity.

Overall, if your looking at the Switch_Back and Slider Sonic, I would go with the Slider Sonic if you can deal with the weight. The Switch_Back is just too small and flimsy for me. When using one, it was almost impossible for me to type on the QWERTY keyboard. While the Slider Sonic won’t replace your IPOD and your PDA, it will hold up to some abuse!
