Verizon has added unlimited messaging to anyone, on any network, for only $20 a month as yet another attractive option for the users of their INPulse prepaid service. The $10 a month unlimited plan released recently was well received but was limited to only other Verizon customers.

The $10 plan is still attractive for those who communicate mostly with other people on their network, or for those who will be using less than 250 messages a month. Let’s face it though, 250 text’s don’t go too far these days.

Anyways, just thought I would updated everyone. This plan could save a lot of money for certain users!

VM's 3G Shuttle Music Slider

The new Virgin Mobile Shuttle is an impressive looking phone with some decent features that it’s predecessor (Starcom Slider Sonic) was lacking. It will be available on September 28th, 2008.

Impressive features include 3G (EV-DO), GPS, and fun stuff such as uLocate and Where.

The first thing that struck me as odd is the 1.3 megapixel camera. Why they skimped on the camera is beyond me, but it’s nothing new with VM. It’s amazing that the Wild Card that was released last year had a 1.3 MP camera, and a year later they still think that the then inadequate camera is still enough.

If you can look past the unimpressive video camera it is a 3G phone, a first for Virgin Mobile. In addition to being the first 3G device, it’s got GPS, bluetooth, a microSD slot, media player, voice dialing, and all your other standard features. Talk time is 234 minutes, and Stand By time is 13.3 days.

The addition of GPS opens up some fun features and indicates their aquisition of Helio. With the Shuttle, you get previous Helio offerings such as "uLocate" (Buddy Beacon look a like) and "Where" (local and nearby businesses).

Don’t get too excited about the bluetooth, though. It allows minimal access. Also, there is no USB cable and one is not offered. You will have to use the MicroSD card or internet to move files. They do make MicroSD to USB card’s that could correct this.

Don’t be fooled by the manufacturer, this is made by UT Starcom just like the Slider Sonic, but since then they have changed their name to PCD (Personal Communications Devices).

How about a promotion? If you buy a Shuttle, they will activate the phone for a year for you, removing the required top ups for 12 months. You will still need to pay for airtime, but you won’t have to worry about keeping it active for the first year by making your 90 day top up

VM Offering Data Plans

Virgin Mobile is now offering 3G Data Plans in anticipation of the release of the Shuttle on September 28th. The new data plans will bring substantial savings to users who are currently using these services on a $1.25 per 24 hours and per 1MB basis. You do not have to have a 3G phone to take advantage of the data offerings, but only 3G phones can take advantage of higher speeds.

The rate structure is rather fair, especially for users on monthly plans.

For Pay as you Go customers:

$5/month: 5MB of Data

$10/month: 20MB of Data + UNLIMITED access to VirginXL

$20/month: 50MB of Data + UNLIMITED access to VirginXL

For Month to Month customers:

$5/month: 20MB of data + UNLIMITED access to VirginXL

$10/month: 50MB of data + UNLIMITED access to VirginXL

Boost Mobile: Blackberry 8350i coming Q4

AT&T is practically giving away the Sony Ericsson Z750a for only $60 WITHOUT a contract. This phone retails for $250 and is 3G compatible.

This is a great, well rounded phone with a laundry list of features. If your using an outdated GoPhone or thinking of switching to GoPhone, I highly recommend you pick this phone up. If nothing else, it would make an awesome back up or gift.

It’s probably the cheapest way your going to get on board with GoPhone and not settle for a bottom of the line phone.

The only downside to this deal is that it is a Refurbished phone and they only have it in Purple or Pink. But hey, isn’t pink the new blue?

If your hesitant about a refurb, I wouldn’t worry too much. Companies such as AT&T and Sony refurbish used equipment back to original specifications. The outer shells are usually replaced, and the phone is identical to a factory first.

There’s also a rumor that you can get it for $69.99 with $25 of airtime.

Virgin Mobile’s new Kyocera TNT

Virgin Mobile is releasing yet another Kyocera phone. The Kyocera Adreno S2400 is being released by Virgin Mobile as the TNT. So, is the new TNT just another cheap flip phone or is it something to check out?

It’s not going to impress your friends unless your 12, and it lacks most of the features you would hope for. After you get past the fact that it’s a $20 phone and it’s lack of impressive features, the TNT does have one redeeming quality: it is very rugged and very blue. Blue is the only color it’s currently offered in, but only time will tell if they switch the colors up. Phone’s like the slice were also intially offered only in 1 hue. The blue does seems to accentuate the cheap look and feel.

Honestly, the phone isn’t all that bad looking for the price when compared to the Shadow Mouse or the Oystr, and it does have that tiny external display that other phones in it’s range are lacking.

VM Flares and minutes on sale at Target

Most targets currently have the Virgin Mobile Flare on sale for $23, and the $20 top up cards for $18 through the rest of this week, and possibly longer.

The Virgin Mobile flare (which is made by LG - aka the LX175) is actually a pretty decent phone for the price. You get a sleek flip phone with a nice external LCD display, bluetooth, web browsing, and it doesn’t look like it’s from the 80’s.

The discounted top up cards can be combined with a promotional code, netting you even more savings! Target frequents offers discounted top up cards and phones, and I have never heard of their top up cards being blocked from stacking with promo codes. If your in need of a new phone, though, your better off going with a bundled phone and airtime from Virgin Mobile USA’s official site. They frequently offer their phones for free with the purchase of airtime for new customers.

Why pay for Garmin on the Helio Ocean?

With Nav4All (www.nav4all.com), you can get free GPS Navigation on your Helio Ocean, for absolutely no cost. Well, no cost for the GPS, you will still have to pay for the data your sending and receiving. I HIGHLY suggest that you get an unlimited data plan before you install any GPS app.

Since this is first and foremost a prepaid site, we are focusing on the Helio, truth be told, Nav4All will work with any phone with a bluetooth gps navigator. Phone such as the T-Mobile Shadow will need additional equipment.

Virgin Mobile Aquires Helio - Better Phones Coming!

Virgin Mobile is currently working on an aquisition of prepaid provider Helio. Most likely this acquisition will lead to Virgin Mobile offering a wider range of products and services including contract based plans (in additon to pay-per-minute) and FINALLY some decent phones such as the Helio Ocean.

This is great news for any current Virgin Mobile customer. My major complain with Virgin Mobile has always been their lackluster phones, but with the aquistion of Helio, there will be an amazing new range of phones and plans that could make even me happy!

Only time will tell what really happens with the acquisition of Helio. A friend working with VM in the Dallas call center tells me that their internal system has a detailed announcement in which they blatantly state that they will offer contract plans and helio devices after the acquisition is through.
